Mission & Values

New Hope Lutheran Church is committed to fulfilling Jesus’ two great “words,” His Great Commandment and His Great Commission.

The Great Commandment

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” – Matthew 22:37-39

The Great Commission

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” – Matthew 28:19-20

Based on those words we want to accomplish three purposes as a community called by and gathered in the name of Jesus:

  • Love the Lord our God through regular, relevant, contemporary worship
  • Connect with one another in the church primarily through Life Groups
  • Serve God’s world by being the voice and hands of Jesus so that others might Love Him, Connect with His Church and Serve the World in His name.

We Value . . .

Jesus before anything – God has shown His love and commitment to us by first giving us life and then when we rejected Him, sending Jesus to restore and redeem us through His sacrifice at the cross. He alone is worthy of our fear, love and trust because it only by His grace, power and wisdom that we are able to overcome the world, death and hell.

Others before self – Everything we do and every decision we make will take into consideration what is best for those we are trying to reach with the Hope of Christ over what might be best for ourselves; our own desires for our church.

Serving Others – Everyone a Minister/Missionary – A minister is one who serves and God tells us in His Word that our purpose is to serve (Eph. 4:11-12 and Eph. 2:10). And, a missionary is one who serves, in particular, by going out with the good news of God’s love in Christ Jesus. It is our conviction that most people will not just come in to the church, so we must go out to them, even those who live right next door. Almost no one is actually saved “in” the church, but through God’s people “being” the church “out” in the world where they will encounter others who need the Hope of Christ. Consequently, at New Hope Missions Church, the expectation is that everyone will be actively involved in missions, locally and/or abroad, in some way.

Everyone in the Word (devotional life) – We cannot serve on empty. If “everyone’s a minister/missionary” then everyone needs the in filling of God’s power, strength, comfort, joy, and peace that comes most regularly through regular time with Him, feasting on His Word. This means that at New Hope Missions Church, we will be encouraging and urging our people to be reading God’s Word daily on their own and to be in a weekly small group Bible Study to build us all up in the love, “grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18), so that we might have the power, love, attitude, and joy that makes serving others effective and so satisfying.

Living a life that makes a difference (that impacts others for Christ) – We firmly believe that “God’s math” works best. God’s math works like this: as we serve others and give our time, love, money and whole-selves away, we receive so much more. As we, led by God’s Spirit, live to make an impact on others with the Hope of Christ, we will live lives that “make a difference” and bring greater meaning and purpose to our own lives. Realizing that this is the purpose for which God designed us all, and trying to live it out, is the most fulfilling thing one can do with their life. At New Hope, we will help others discover this “secret to happiness” in the Serving Projects and Mission Work that we encourage and urge everyone to become involved in.

Bible Based Teaching and Preaching – Everything we do, teach, preach, and live at New Hope Missions Church is grounded in God’s Word. We believe the Bible to be without error, inspired by God to say what He wanted to say to us, and is completely sufficient for life and salvation. We fully embrace both God’s “law” and His “grace” as expressed throughout the Bible. This means that we don’t diminish the commands of God yet are not legalistic, and fully embrace the love and forgiveness of God’s undeserved grace without using this as an excuse not to obey Him.

Worship that is Relational, Relevant, Connective – We believe that “worship” is the means by which we encounter God corporately. In worship we both give and receive. We give God the praise and thanks He so deserves, and He gives us His grace and forgiveness, and increases His presence in our lives. The format of worship at New Hope Missions Church is designed to facilitate that encounter with God. It is our intent for worship to be a vehicle by which God’s presence is brought to people and people are brought into God’s presence – to aid each person’s relationship with God, in which God is God and we are His people; sheltered, loved, strengthened, comforted, and empowered for service to others in His Name. Consequently, worship at New Hope is relational, relevant to our lives, and strives to better connect us to God and His invigorating presence.
